HARDY HOTEL OPENING FOR BUSINESS THIS WEEK! My long-time friend Sandy is flying down this week from Wisconsin for a little R & R. Last week I found the best pizza in the world --right here in Dayton! And tonight I tried a new cinnamon roll recipe that makes two 9x13 pans of cinnamon rolls that are incredibly light and fluffy and mmm mmm good! So I am ready for business! At the end of February my daughter, Lisa, and her wonderful husband, Joe, are coming from Seattle for the first time (Yippee!). We've also got Muriel booked for May, when her granddaughter graduates from Miami U, and Tom's brother Jim might make it out here, too, to check out the Columbus area. What dates can I reserve for you? We'd love to have you! If only I could get Elmer & Fudd to carry the suitcases to your room. I've made some good progress on the book, so I appreciate your prayers for that. Email me if you want the cinnamon bun recipe--it uses a white cake mix, plus the usual yeast and fl...
Oh, Beautiful, for Spacious Skies, for Amber Waves of Grain . . . That song has been playing in my head all day! I finally took all the tour books from AAA, Mapquest mileage, and a calendar and started putting together our trip to Seattle in June. I'm getting excited! Maybe a little too excited, as I see 2 or 3 days of 800 miles. Hmmm . . . Maybe I should rethink some of those. Yet, they are miles through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa . . . If you've seen one cornfield you've seen them all, right? And we'll have 2 or 3 drivers . . . I hope Tom can go over this with me sometime in the next few days. Do we want to go through Denver on the way out, and Yellowstone on the way back? What's the difference between the Badlands and the Black Hills? Do we drive? Do we fly out and take a rental car back? How long can Lisa and Joe and Brad stand to have us around? How long can Tom, Aaron and I be cooped up in a Ford Explorer before somebody (probably me) POPS! And what's it goin...
BORING IS GOOD Those are words of wisdom from a friend who was raised by alchoholics. "Raised" used loosely. Lets say they lived in the same house until the divorce. The little boys went with the dad, my friend went with her mom. Then her mom died. This was all during the first 13 years. My friend loves security, peace, and routine. She doesn't love boredom. She's one of the most intelligent, hilarious and not boring people I've ever met. We've spent many afternoons laughing until our sides hurt, making more jokes until there were tears to wipe from our eyes. But for her, "boring" is in the good zone. I try to remember that on days like this--typical January--gray, noncomittal snow, damp cold. I remember that the worst thing that's happened so far is only that I ran out of laundry detergent and had to make a run to the store. At the store I saw apple juice was only $1, so I bought a bottle. When I got home and opened the car door it rolled right ...

TECHNO DINOSAUR EVOLVING: NOW ABLE TO POST PHOTO YIPPEE! I posted a picture! I can't tell you what an accomplishment this is! Now I'm all excited to learn how to use our digital camera! This photo is from July 2005, whitewater rafting on the Hudson River in NY. I'm smack dab in the middle, third person on the left of the raft. Our guide, "Critter," is at the back of the raft, raising his arms like people do on roller coasters. The rest of us are hanging on for dear life. Aaron's in front, gulping the hits we take. Thanks to my nephew, Ryan Bowman, for giving me some great directions for posting photos. It's really easy. Email me if you want to know how. The next thing I want to do on this blog is figure out how to link you to Ryan's blog about their adventures in China! Have a great week, and if you're a Buckeye football fan, don't hang your head in shame too long. It's only a game . . . National championship, true, but it's only a game...
