Some Good Websites
Hear ye, hear ye, y'all.
Please, before sending me the next email/chain mail/FWD letter of "don't-ever-buy-from-this-store", or an Amber alert, pervert alert, or cut-off finger in the restaurant alert, check the accuracy of the story on this website: http://www.snopes.com/ (Hey! Be sure to come back to my blog by clicking on your "Back to" arrow.)
Snopes stands for "s'nope, that's an urban legend that you just swallowed hook, line and sinker."
Most of those email stories are very emotional and/or very alarming and fear inducing--so that feeling "I've got to do something about this!"--that's my red flag that sends me to snopes. I check most stories before I pass them along and it's saved me some embarrassment--make that "a lot" of embarrassment, because the majority of the email fwd junk out there is just that: junk.
Here's a nice link for your holiday shopping: consumer information. This link gets you to my library's website and its consumer info tab where you'll find links to all sorts of good stuff. you can even get on the "Do Not Call" registry to get the telemarketers off your phone. If you had a library card you could even get Consumer Reports and read all their articles through the library's subscription. Maybe your own library has that, too, but I just wanted to show off mine a little. It's a really good library.
WRITING UPDATE: Last week chapter 12 was a struggle! A real wrestling match! This week will probably be the same: I saved the hardest for last. :( Silly me.
On Friday-Sunday morning Tom and I are going to Weekend To Remember. We went a couple years ago. It's like a car tune up or an oil change, only it's for marriage; regular maintenance is important! And I've given you the link for that, too. (Just click on the underlined words, Mom). :)
Thanks for checking in on me! Have a great week!
