Besides my mantra for the New Year of "Healthy and Strong," this video will also guide me.

WRITING uPdATE: Yes, things are up and down. Time is down, other stuff is UP. I'll be speaking on Jan. 24 for a library speakers bureau engagement; and then there's a chance to do some poetry with a writer's group in Feb. The widows blog is going well with over 100 readers each week. But I hope this is the year of the book! I dread the thought of submitting it--pray about that hugest of hurdles for me.

I just wanted to say what an awesome job you are doing at Widows Christian Place, Ferree!! 100 readers is a very impressive ministry. I visited it again today and read a bunch of entries and they were so good. I loved the top 10 new year predictions showing that Jesus' love and the Bible is still where we find the answers to life's issues, and imagining everyone singing in heaven, plus I wanted to assure you Bruce could never be forgotten. I remember his prayers at our get togethers and his very cute sense of humor. (Also was amazed that he could bikeride from Appleton to our farm with no problem at all!) I was lucky to be able to visit him and you at one of your first houses in Ohio with your mom and dad when we drove out there. I can still remember being inside the ranch house and the layout of it, too. (funny how I don't remember things from last year but I can remember that trip Of course I do have pictures of it, maybe that's how) I'm pretty sure it was a few hundred feet from the church and I was about 12 or so.
Keep up the great work at WCP!

Dear Margo, I never dreamed WCP would capture my heart like it has. The stories I hear and the women I meet are amazing--but it's all because of how the Lord is leading and sustaining them through such pain.
I wish I could take credit for those top 10 new year predictions--I love them, too, and refer to them quite often! Thanks for sharing your memories of Bruce, I really enjoyed them! You're a sweetie. hugs :)

Outdoor Visitors

Tom was burning some brush at the back of our lot early this evening. I walked back there to talk to him, and lo and behold---a big wild turkey came walking out of the woods on the lot across from us! I thought maybe he smelled the smoke and decided to check it out. And he didn't seem in too much of a hurry, but he picked up the pace when he saw us. A minute later, we saw some more movement where the turkey was, and a coyote peered over at us. He turned around after eyeballing us. I think maybe he was following that meaty looking turkey. I never know what I'll see out here!   And this little thing was inside the screened-in porch today. The green anole made it out alive yesterday, so I guess word is out---Fud isn't a threat! Those are NOT my fingers in the picture.

New Pets

My garden failed in everything except a pot of parsley. Last week I noticed tiny green beads stuck to the parsley leaves, and a few days later some small black caterpillars, and now.... PETS! Yep. Pet caterpillars. Not Monarchs, though. They kind of look like the Monarch butterfly caterpillar, but these are Black Swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. Love the parsley. They totally destroyed my plant so I bought them some from the grocery store. I put the stems in a cup of water and it's holding up well enough---at the rate they're going they might eat it all before it wilts anyway! I wish I'd taken their pictures on Wednesday when they were less than 1" long. Now they're a good 2" long. Let me introduce you:   This one is named Parsley. Start up the music for Scarborough Fair.
