These Aren't Frisbees . . .
. . . we're wearing vintage hats that Sarah Plaid Shirt Great Story Writer brought. I'd rather tell you she was on the left or the right but I never know if you will think it's my left or your left; and she's not on my left, unless it's as I'm looking at the picture, but in the picture I've got my right hand on her shoulder, and
since either direction from me is always best described as the "other" way . . . or as Tom says when I'm telling him which way to turn, "Do you mean the 'other' left?" Pointing is easier. Sarah's on my other left, right? No, left. Your left, my right, right? See what I mean?
Let's just say on the other side of me is Pat Alleluia, or you may identify her as Pat Blue Dress Wonderful Editor. She and Sarah have been friends for years, and they allowed me in with them to spend Thursday and Friday having our very own writers conference. Sarah and I dragged out our piles of pages, read them out loud, and then benefitted from comments, questions, great badgering :) and critiques from each other. Sarah and I met two years ago at Montrose Writers Conference in PA, and we've been talking about doing this ever since. Sarah happened to move to a spot in Kentucky just an hour from Cinci, and Pat lives about 20 minutes from my house, so it was meant to be.
Pat came with enviable college English professor, librarian and historian experience. Very sharp lady! She could go straight to the problem of any piece and tell how to fix it. She was amazing! Sarah is a Bible Club Movement missionary with a real gift for story-telling, creativitiy and wordsmithing. Me? I dragged out my little manuscript, listened to their comments and received all sorts of threats if I don't hurry up and finish it!
These days were like a rocket boost for my writing, and I get another boost this Tuesday. My friend Cindy invited me to Prairie Pond Woods for a real treat--a day of writing!
WRITING UPDATE: This whole post was a writing update! Thanks for checking in on me, and have a great week.
